| The more energy you
can save the more money you will save as well. Follow these
simple tips and cut your energy bills. |
 |
| curtains
|
| Open your curtains
during the day to let light in and close them once the sun
goes down to stop heat escaping through the windows.
|
 |
| electrical
appliances |
| Don't leave
electrical appliances (like televisions, videos, stereos,
computers, cordless phones) on standby as this can use as much
electricity as leaving them turned on. |
 |
| fridges
|
| Don't leave your
fridge door open for longer than necessary, as cold air will
escape. Avoid putting hot or warm food straight into the
fridge; allow it to cool down first. |
 |
| washing
machines and tumble dryers |
| Make sure you wash a
full load or use a half-load or economy programme. Since
modern washing powders are just as effective at lower
temperatures always use the low temperature programmes. And
don't put really wet clothes into a tumble dryer; wring them
out or spin-dry them first. It's much faster and it will save
you money. |
 |
| kettles
|
| Don't put too much
water in the kettle, if you only want to make one hot drink
just fill the kettle with that amount of water.
|
 |
| lightbulbs
|
| Replace any lights
that you use for four hours or more a day with an
energy-saving equivalent - which will use around a quarter of
the electricity and last up to 12 times longer.
|
 |
| windows
|
| Double-glazing cuts
heat loss through windows by 50%. |
 |
| cavity wall
insulation |
| If your walls aren't
insulated you will lose more heat through them than any other
part of your home, costing you a lot of money each year in
wasted energy. |
 |
| loft
insulation |
| Loft insulation will
help you save energy, money and the environment, keeping your
house warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
|
 |
| draught
proofing |
| If you don't have
double glazing your home is losing up to 25% of its heat
through gaps in doors and windows. |
